  • The Best Places To Take Afternoon Tea In London

It’s #afternoonteaweek and to celebrate this important event, our Luxury PR Team share their  top 10 spots in London to indulge in the fabulous tradition of taking a classic afternoon tea and plenty of inspiration with a contemporary twist!

Afternoon Tea At The Savoy

Taking afternoon tea at the Savoy is a favourite with the team, and it has to be on your cream tea bucket list! You can soak up the elegant surroundings of the London Savoy’s Thames Foyer which features a beautiful glass dome filled with natural light with a pianist in the backdrop. Finger sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream and jam served on tiered cake stands and a glass of champagne to complete this perfect package. They also offer a vegan and vegetarian cream tea, which fills us with love for this quintessentially British institution.

Afternoon Tea At The Ritz

Another favourite of ours. The beautiful presentation of afternoon tea and the scrumptious decor and surroundings ensure that this London afternoon tea is a sensory experience like no other! Finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve and a delicious range of pastries and tea cakes are served in The Palm Court. Not to outdone, they also have their very own exclusive blend tea (of course) and have a certified Tea Sommelier to travels the world to source their extensive range of teas. Oh, and did we mention their resident harpist and pianist to accompany your afternoon tea experience.

Afternoon Tea At TĪNG, Shangri-La The Shard, London

TING’s afternoon tea at celebrates our capital with their ‘Skyline Afternoon Tea’ which features a miniature chocolate and raspberry Shard building for two to share complete with a delicious choice of finger sandwiches and sweet treats including scones, pastries, tarts and cakes.
Worthy of a visit and insta worthy on your grid!

Afternoon Tea At Prêt-à-Portea

If you’re a fashionista through and through then you’ll love this stylish take on afternoon tea at The Berkley. Showcasing couture cakes inspired by designers ranging from Gucci to Lanvin, this afternoon is beautifully presented as the opening show and celebrates designer style you can eat. An experience that you won’t want to miss!

Afternoon Tea At The Sanderson Hotel

Inspired by Alice In Wonderland, our luxury PR team adore this twist on traditional. Menus are hidden inside vintage books and teapots featuring majestic kings and queens. We love the miniature bottles with ‘Drink Me’ tags filled with fruit juices. The attention to detail is fabulous and fun without losing the essence of a luxury London afternoon tea, including a glass of champers.

Afternoon Tea At One Aldwych

Another gorgeous themed afternoon tea; however, this one takes inspiration from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory! Perfect for anyone looking to combine their sweet tooth with beautifully thought through taste sensations, including pineapple cream to accompany your scones and ‘snoozzberry’ jam and violet and lemon cake.

Other London afternoon tea options are available, including gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options and private afternoon teas for groups from 12 – 30 people are possible in their private dining rooms.

Afternoon Tea At Claridges

One we’ve tried and loved! What we love about this afternoon tea is that their pastries change to reflect the fruits of that season and they offer traditional London afternoon tea, champagne afternoon tea and even a special children’s afternoon tea all created with thought, care and attention.  Keep an eye out for their Seasonal Afternoon Tea, whereby their talented pastry chefs create a limited-edition afternoon tea inspired by key British events all year around. Their fine bone china is also made to a unique Claridge’s pattern, and their cutlery is from one of the world’s finest makers in Hamburg, also made to a unique Claridge’s design. It’s all about the details (and cake of course).

Afternoon Tea At The Dorchester

The Dorchester is a firm favourite. It’s beautiful decor and ambience does not go unnoticed and afternoon tea here is a wonderful experience. We love the fact that they also offer two early settings so you can indulge in afternoon tea in the late morning too. Yes, it breaks with tradition, but that is as far as we venture away with this decadent experience.

Their Seasonal Afternoon Tea is also worth a peek, inspired by the blooms from the season. Cakes almost too beautiful to eat!

Afternoon Tea At The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon At Fortnum & Mason

This award-winning afternoon tea salon has been serving tea since 1926, so you know you are in good company. Choose Afternoon or High Tea for tasty delights, including their famous scones and Battenberg cake made on site. A favourite amongst our luxury London PR team. One of the best places to take tea with tradition.

Afternoon Tea At The Wolseley

Although the cheapest ‘cream tea’ experience in London on our list with prices starting at just £12.75 per person, it is by no means lacking in luxury or sheer afternoon tea indulgence. With all their scones and pastries handmade each day in their kitchen. We would have to opt for their Classic Afternoon Tea with assorted finger sandwiches, fruit scones, selection of pastries and the Wolseley Collection of teas. Seeped in history, including a beginning life as a motorcar showroom in 1921, then as a bank branch, this beautiful venue has been lovingly restored, and it shows. Immerse yourself in history with this afternoon experience.
