Halloween: Scary With Spice! - MirrorMePR

When it comes to dressing up for Halloween, We’re not entirely convinced that we should be making our horses participate in this yearly tradition!

Whilst Pugs might look funny in pumpkin outfits (well, they do, don’t they?), and of course humans dressing up can be great fun, putting horses in full-on Halloween costumes is a whole new direction – and not one that I’m sure I particularly like, especially when it comes to adults participating in and encouraging this strange pass-time (again, I would say that kids on cute Shetlands can get away with this kind of thing better… and manage to look less weird!)

In September, professional and amateur show-jumpers riding in the Longines Los Angeles Masters Grand Slam traded in their breeches for fancy dress in the name of charity and that, for me, is the best way to involve your horse in dressing up (i.e. riding them while you are wearing a costume); but dressing up your poor horse to look like a giant spider for a laugh isn’t so good!

Aside from the fact that any horse that allows itself to be really dressed up would probably have to be totally bomb proof (a quick search on ‘Halloween fancy dress costumes for horses’ on Google or Pinterest should prove this – most of the horsey Halloween costumes are completely crazy), none of the horses shown in these examples of dressed-up horses look entirely happy with their outfits… and to be fair, we think if we were donning full skeleton make-up or wearing a full white bed sheet from head to toe, neither would we!

So from all of us at MirrorMePR, we hope you have a very happy Halloween… just hopefully without the horse!
